Decommissioning & Recycling

Turn-key removal of aging equipment, with oil handling, recycling, and disposal.

When equipment reaches the end of its life, it has to come out safely. ESS handles turn-key decommissioning, from de-energizing through hauling the apparatus off site.

Older oil-filled breakers and transformers carry an environmental liability in the oil itself, so containment is a core part of the job, not an afterthought.

What the work involves

  • De-energizing and establishing safe clearances
  • Draining, containing, and processing insulating oil
  • Removing breakers, transformers, and structures
  • Recycling metals and equipment where possible
  • Disposal of remaining material to spec
  • Site cleanup, often ahead of a replacement build

Most teardowns clear the way for a modern replacement, so decommissioning and construction are usually two halves of the same project.
