Perkins is the Arizona end of the Mead-Perkins 500kV line, the backbone that carries Nevada power down to the Phoenix load. The yard is packed with the hardware that keeps a line that long stable: series capacitors, shunt reactors, breakers, and phase-shifting transformers.
It sits right next to the Westwing 500kV substation northwest of Phoenix.
